Welcome to RekoSkolan (fair-trade organic school)!
RekoSkolan, founded in 2018, is both a school in an old schoolhouse outside of Ekenäs/Tammisaari on Finland’s southwest coast, and a traveling school. We offer hands-on workshops and seminars and other activities with a focus on social sustainability in Swedish and English in southern Finland and Sweden. Chocolate and “reko” – which is a nickname for fair-trade and organic – are at present our main themes but we plan to develop further themes involving recycling and re-make.
I, Ylva Rancken-Lutz, founded RekoSkolan in order to transform theories and visions of social sustainability into real-world action. I have a masters degree in sociology (Lund) with a special interest in urban families, social sustainability and inclusive city-planning, and worked 8 years as a researcher, 4 as project leader, and have years of experience in education. I also spent 10 years working in various capacities at Emmaus-Westervik, part of Emmaus International, working in recycling and supporting development projects, and have a strong background in handcrafts, ceramics, workcamps, collective living, and the world of food including chocolate-making (JoY Choko).
I want to share with others my knowledge and interests under the slogan “less talk and more getting to the task” and believe that the most effective and best way to describe social sustainability is through “think-and-act” workshops in which we both talk and put into practice. I offer analytical services for companies and organizations working to improve social sustainability and SROI (Social Return on Investment) analyses. A recent example is a solar-powered gazebo Ekenäs Solhus with picnic table and charging station for mobile devices.
